Privacy Policy
At TabDeck, privacy isn't just a policy, it's our core architecture. Your notes, bookmarks, layout preferences, and scratchpad data never leave your browser sandbox.
Local Storage Only
All workspace data is saved exclusively inside your browser via chrome.storage.local.
Zero Telemetry
No tracking pixels, third-party analytics, keystroke logging, or behavioral tracking of any kind.
No Remote Servers
We operate zero backend databases or cloud synchronization servers for your personal browser contents.
1. Overview & Core Philosophy
TabDeck is designed as a lightweight, offline-first browser extension and default new tab interface. We believe your browser space should be calm, personal, and entirely under your control. Unlike conventional web applications that upload user interactions to central servers, TabDeck runs 100% locally inside your browser environment.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Because TabDeck does not communicate with external analytics servers or remote storage services, we do not collect:
- Extension Usage Data & PII: The Chrome extension itself does not collect names, IP addresses, browsing history, or device identifiers.
- Browsing History & URLs: We do not log, inspect, or transmit the websites you visit or your open tab URLs.
- Scratchpad Content: Notes, task checklists, search queries, and custom bookmark links remain isolated on your local hard drive.
2.5 Waitlist Email (Website Only)
On tabdeck.app/waitlist, we optionally collect your email address only to notify you when Pro launches. We never sell, share, or use your email for spam. The Chrome extension itself does NOT collect or transmit your email address.
3. Browser Extension Permissions
When installing the TabDeck browser extension, your browser may prompt you regarding specific permission declarations. Here is why each permission is requested:
storage
Required to save your customized grid tiles, active theme settings, and quick-note cards locally within your browser sandbox.
bookmarks (Optional)
Allows you to search and display your browser bookmark folders directly on your new tab deck without copying them manually.
topSites (Optional)
Enables an optional tile widget that shows your most frequently visited website shortcuts on your command deck.
4. Data Control, Backup & Deletion
You retain 100% ownership and control over your workspace data at all times:
- •Export & Backup: You can export your entire deck configuration as a standard JSON file anytime through the Settings panel (⚙️).
- •Data Erasure: Clearing your browser storage or uninstalling the TabDeck extension instantly and permanently deletes all locally stored preferences from your device.
5. Third-Party Links & Search Engines
TabDeck allows you to configure custom search bars (e.g., Google, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia) and bookmark shortcuts. When you click a shortcut or execute a search, you will navigate directly to that third-party website. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to visit.
6. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in extension features or browser security requirements. Any updates will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
